Chamber of Commerce: Mallow will become the Las Vegas of North Cork for one night only on Friday October 14th 2011. The bright lights, glamour and sparkle of the gambling mecca will hit Mallow as Mallow Chamber hosts a Casino Night at the Arches Bar starting at 9pm. The entertainment will centre on blackjack and roulette tables and each guest will receive €1,000 worth of “funny money” to gamble during the event.
The night will offer a relaxed atmosphere with 8 tables manned by professional croupiers. The ten players with the most money at the end of the evening will go forward to the last table where there will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. There will also be spot prizes on offer and an opportunity to spin the wheel for cash prizes.
Chamber President Pat O’Sullivan says it’ll be a night with a difference. “Even the organisation of this event has resulted in a spin off for local businesses and shows that we can host a variety of events in Mallow. The Chamber thought a casino night would capture the imagination as it’s not a race night or table quiz, and will give people an opportunity to dress up but to have a relatively inexpensive night out on their doorstep. It’s also a chance for people to stop worrying about the reality and hardship of doing business in the current economic conditions and feel like Vegas high rollers - for one night only.”
Rory Casey from the organising committee is thrilled with the response so far. “We had underlying costs in running the event but are delighted to report that already all 8 of the tables have been sponsored by local businesses so all the money raised through ticket sales and on the night can go towards maintaining the positive marketing of Mallow that the Chamber has been working so hard to continue throughout the year.”
Deputy President of Mallow Chamber Mary Kelly agrees, “The Chamber has been very active in keeping a positive media light on Mallow over the past 12 months in particular, from helping our members by lowering council rates, part sponsorship of the Racing Home for Easter Festival and being nominated for a national award for the event as well as receiving mentions on national radio for embracing promotions such as Fiver Friday.”
